Reassurance

The 91st Psalm

My recent blogs have been reviewing some tools we have been given for being strong in the spirit. I have seen great results when quoting aloud the 91st. Psalm.

It is literally a power house of promises and provision, but like many of God’s provisions we need to be aware of them and claim them aloud for the forces of evil to hear them.

In addition God works with His own word.  In Isaiah 55:11 He tells us His word will not return void. Verse 11 of the 91st. Psalm says He will give His angels charge over us – the condition is that we dwell in the secret place.  I take this to mean regular time in our prayer closet, wherever that may be, as well as living in His presence as we go about our daily life.

My husband and I were on an island in Hawaii a couple of years ago and were going to supper when he said, “I think I am having a retinal detachment.”  I had him lay down on the bed and quoted the 91st. Psalm over him believing in the power of the spoken aloud word of God and the promises in this passage of Scripture.

Following this we sought medical help and found there were no Ophthalmologists on the island. If it were indeed a retinal detachment it is dangerous to fly due to the cabin pressure, but we had to get to the main island for medical evaluation.

Our daughter had medical contacts who recommended a Dr. in Honolulu. As soon as his office opened the next morning we were able to get an appointment with him, fly over to the island and see him. The next day the Dr. was going on a trip for two weeks and we would not have been in the office. While sitting in his waiting room I saw a very extensive array of published articles and research finding he had published.  He was at the very top of his field. The expert!

He assured us it was not a retinal detachment but a film behind the eye that slips down as one ages causing temporary cloudy vision. It was safe to fly and we were out of there the same afternoon to fly home that night.

The timing of this episode was unbelievable, and we know it was God’s provision.  In addition I was able to witness to the hotel personnel who could not have been more concerned and helpful in arranging our air flight and helping me with the luggage which my husband could not risk lifting.

I encourage my readers to study this Psalm and commit it to memory so you can have it in your spiritual tool box to pull out and quote when dangerous, challenging situations arise.

Reassuring Thoughts

Ephesians 1: 3-13 give us reassuring words about how God views us.

We are so blessed that He chose us before the foundation of the world. I personally think He chose each of His man/woman creations but sadly some do not respond to His out stretched arms. When we can really get a grasp on the truth that He chose us it helps us not to be down on ourselves.

Verse five goes on to say He adopted us. Some of us came from dysfunctional

families or perhaps we ourselves were adopted into a family. Now to learn that the God of the universe chose us for His family is an awesome thought. You take what you get in a natural birth but in adoption there is a choice.

We are accepted in the beloved. How wonderful it is to feel accepted in spite of our faults. It makes us want to serve that one who so completely accepts us with all our imperfections.

The passage goes on to assure us we have redemption available to us through His blood, He makes known the mysteries of His will, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, and He guarantees our inheritance

We must put our trust in Christ and come into the family of God. Following this we receive the inheritance that goes with being in that family.

Overcoming Through The Power of the Blood of the Lamb

We over come by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.”  Rev. 12:11

It is fascinating to contemplate the power we, as Christians, have over the forces of evil when we call on the blood that Jesus, the Lamb of God, shed on the cross. The blood dripped down His head, His hands, His body, and His feet forming a pool of blood at the base of the cross. That blood had the divine life of Jesus contained within it and it is as alive today as it was on the day He hung on the cross.

I used to wonder what people meant when they “pleaded” the blood in prayer.  I read an explanation by Jack Hayford which cleared it up for me.  He compared it to one standing in a court of law when the judge asked, “How do you plead.  Guilty or not guilty?”  Anyone of us would have to plead guilty of numerous charges of transgression against God’s holy, righteous standards; yet, because Jesus took those sins on Himself we can plead, “not guilty.”  Is that not an awesome thought?  All our sins nailed to the cross!  All of our sins heaped on Jesus, the Christ and redeemer of those who would accept His blood sacrifice.  He took what should have been charged to me and paid the price for my transgressions.

It has taken me years to begin to grasp the magnitude of what Jesus did for you, as well as me, and for anyone who would accept Him as a substitute for their sins.

Jesus, the Christ, provided the eternal conquest of Satan whose accusing voice of condemnation and guilt is swallowed up in the triumph of Calvary.  We over come by

declaring our faith in that holy blood sacrifice.  We can rejoice that according to Col. 1:13 we are delivered from the power of darkness and into the kingdom of the Son He loves.  Our constant heart cry should be to stay fully motivated and equipped to walk in this provision and to be bold to avail ourselves of the anointing He passed on when He said, “Greater works will you do than I have done.” (John 14:12).   My mind can not comprehend this statement.

We have a blood covering that we can proclaim and declare when the arrows of Satan start to fly in our direction.  I personally am just now learning to pray that God will manifest the power of the blood over the needs I bring to Him in the way that will bring Him the most glory.  I have to admit that previously I often prayed what would make me the most comfortable.

Protection For Christians

“Blessed be the Lord, my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle – My loving kindness and my fortress, My high tower and my deliverer, My shield and the One in whom I take refuge. Who subdues my people under me.” Psalm 144: 1-3 MKJ

Psalm 144 is a very powerful word for believers in Christ. First we are assured the Lord is our rock. A rock indicates a strong support under us. We can count on that foundation in the storms of life. Then we are assured of His loving kindness as He oversees our lives. He is our fortress. I picture this as protection all around us. He is our deliverer. We often need deliverance from the ravages of our enemy, Satan. I love to think of the high tower and picture it at the top of a tall ladder where we can run and take refuge when the trials of life are too great. The shield is closer to us physically than the fortress. I think of the fortress as around my house where as the shield is around me personally. This is a comforting passage to mediate on and keep in our “spiritual tool box.”

Renewed Mind

My last blog addressed new opportunities. In this writing I want to emphasize the new mind that we as followers of the Lord, Jesus Christ have available to each of us. A new mind. What a thought!

Philippians 2:5 states, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.”

The Christ follower often knows what his/her thinking and action should be in situations. The challenge lies in choosing to operate out of that instead of our natural minds. We may have spent years letting our emotions rule and letting our mind control instead of the mind of Christ. Our minds are sometimes full of self interest and justification of our wrong attitudes towards others. Unforgiveness, taking offense, and harsh judgemental attitudes have been a challenge for me at times. Just this week I had a struggle in prayer over a situation and finally yielded to the mind of Christ and saw the situation turned around as I surrendered my self interest.

I think of it like two minds in one head. Our natural minds, sometimes full of ungodly attitudes, usually wanting what we want or the mind of Christ that is full of His grace, mercy, love, and kindness. We can chose which one we will allow to control our actions. This picture of two minds has helped me to clearly see where the challenge is and motivates me to chose His way.

I can attest to the joy that floods my being when I stare my self-will in the face and chose the Godly reaction over an ungodly reaction.
