The Lord’s Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer was given to the disciples upon their request. “Teach us to pray.” They had seen first hand the power of Jesus’ life poured out in ministries to the physically and spiritually blind, lame and hurting multitudes. We too join that ancient cry, “teach us to pray,” and we ask that the Holy Spirit birth within us a deep desire and passion for prayer. All of the needs of the human heart can be presented to the Father using the Lord’s Prayer as an outline. We will discover that the first three parts of the prayer focus on His name, His Kingdom and His will. The next sections are give us, forgive us, lead us, deliver us. Finally, we return to focus on His kingdom, His power and His glory. We often start prayer with our own needs, but Jesus reverses this order in His model.

Matthew 6:9-13 Amplified (Also found in part in Luke 11:1-4)
Pray therefore like this: Our Father [who] is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be [your] name. Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven (left, remitted and let go the debts, and given up resentment against) our debtors. And lead (bring) us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen
